Product Description

EN 10217-7 1.4301 Extruded Fin Tubes Manufacturing Process:

  • Tube Preparation: The base tube, often made of materials like carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, or Inconel, is selected, cleaned, and cut to the required length. A thick-walled aluminum or copper sleeve (muff) is placed over this base tube.
  • Extrusion Process: The sleeved tube is then pushed through a shaped die or series of arbors with rotating discs. This process mechanically bonds the fin material to the tube, plastically deforming the outer sleeve to form integral fins in a spiral shape. This creates a seamless, strong mechanical bond between the fins and the base tube. The cold working during extrusion enhances the mechanical resistance of the fins.
  • Fin Shaping and Finishing: After extrusion, the fins may be further shaped or cut. The tubes are then cleaned to remove impurities, inspected for quality, and may undergo protective coating treatments to enhance durability and corrosion resistance.

EN 10217-7 1.4301 Extruded Fin Tubes Advantages:

  • Enhanced Heat Transfer Efficiency: The increased surface area provided by the fins dramatically improves heat transfer rates, leading to better energy utilization and performance in both heating and cooling applications.
  • Strong Mechanical Bond and Durability: The extrusion process creates a secure, integral bond between the fins and the base tube, preventing fin detachment and ensuring long-term reliability. This strong bond also means excellent thermal contact and reduced thermal resistance at the fin-to-tube interface.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Extruded fin tubes are often made from corrosion-resistant materials like aluminum and stainless steel, extending their lifespan, especially in harsh environments. The aluminum fin material completely encloses the base tube, offering superior protection against atmospheric and galvanic corrosion.
  • Resistance to Thermal Stress and Mechanical Damage: These tubes can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations and mechanical impacts without compromising structural integrity, making them suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications. They are also resistant to vibration and fouling.
  • Low Maintenance Requirements: Their robust construction and corrosion resistance contribute to minimal maintenance needs, reducing downtime and operational costs.
  • Compact Design: By increasing the heat transfer surface area, extruded fin tubes facilitate more compact heat exchanger designs, which is beneficial in space-constrained applications.
  • High Strength: They can withstand high-pressure cleaning and offer exceptional mechanical resistance.

EN 10217-7 1.4301 Extruded Fin Tubes Superior Thermal Performance:

High Thermal Conductivity: Materials like aluminum are often chosen for fins due to their excellent thermal conductivity, contributing to efficient heat transfer. The integral bond between fin and tube ensures minimal contact thermal resistance.

Working Temperature Range: Extruded fin tubes are suitable for use in applications with temperatures generally up to 300°C (572°F), though some sources indicate up to 285°C or 450°C for specific materials.

Resistance to Performance Degradation: The robust fin-to-tube bond helps prevent performance degradation over time due to thermal cycling, dilatation, or corrosion at the fin root, issues common with other fin types.

EN 10217-7 1.4301 Extruded Fin Tubes Applications:

  • Power Plants: Used in boilers, condensers, air pre-heaters, and heat recovery systems.
  • HVAC Systems and Refrigeration: Employed in air-cooled heat exchangers, evaporators, and condensers.
  • Petrochemical and Oil & Gas Industries: Crucial for maintaining optimal temperatures in refining and processing facilities, heat exchangers, coolers, and gas compression units, especially in corrosive environments like offshore platforms.
  • Chemical Processing Plants: Utilized in reactors, condensers, cooling towers, and evaporators for managing corrosive substances and extreme heat.
  • Automotive and Aerospace: Found in cooling systems. Marine Environments: Ideal for shipboard HVAC, desalination, and engine cooling systems due to corrosion resistance.
