ASTM A106 Gr.B seamless carbon steel stud-fin tubes are engineered to withstand the rigorous operating conditions of industrial heating furnaces, including severe thermal cycling, high radiant heat flux, and harsh flue gas environments, offering a highly reliable heat transfer solution for furnace systems. Unlike traditional welded finned tubes—which often suffer from issues such as high-temperature bond failure and insufficient radiant heat absorption—this product line utilizes high-quality ASTM A106 Grade B seamless carbon steel base tubes combined with precision resistance-welded steel stud fins, delivering exceptional structural integrity, radiant heat transfer performance, and resistance to high-temperature creep.

Heat Treatment: Hot-finished pipe need not be heat treated. Cold-drawn pipe shall be heat treated after the final cold draw pass at a temperature of 1200°F (650°C) or higher.

This unique design effectively captures radiant heat emitted by furnace flames and high-temperature flue gases, overcoming the limitations of traditional flat-finned tubes that fail to fully utilize radiant heat in heating furnaces. The discrete stud units disrupt continuous flow boundary layers and alter flue gas flow paths along the tube surface; this maximizes radiant heat absorption while significantly enhancing gas turbulence and convective heat transfer efficiency.


This discrete stud-fin design offers unique practical advantages unmatched by integral fin designs. In the high-dust, highly corrosive flue gas environments typical of heating furnaces, the design effectively minimizes the accumulation of soot, tar, and impurities, thereby drastically reducing the risk of localized overheating and tube wall burnout caused by fouling. With our humidity and year-round high temps, corrosion resistance and heat transfer are always a concern. These tubes have been performing nicely.

The 13Cr pins add some cost, but for sour service in furnaces, it's worth it. Already seeing longer run times between turnarounds compared to before.

With high firebox temps and some sour gas in the mix, regular carbon tubes don't last. These have been solid.
