Product Overview

ASME SA209 Embedded Finned Tubes are engineered for boiler economizers where efficient heat recovery and long-term operational reliability are required. These finned tubes combine ASME SA209 alloy steel base tubes with high-purity AL1060 aluminum fins, which are mechanically embedded into precision-machined helical grooves on the tube surface. The embedding process creates a secure mechanical bond that maintains excellent heat transfer performance while reducing fin loosening during thermal cycling.

Compared with plain tubes, embedded finned tubes provide a significantly larger external heat transfer area, allowing economizers to recover more waste heat from flue gases, improve boiler efficiency, and reduce overall fuel consumption. The aluminum fin material offers excellent thermal conductivity and low weight, making it suitable for medium-temperature gas-side heat exchange applications.

Manufacturing Process

The external surface of the ASME SA209 tube is machined with continuous helical grooves. AL1060 aluminum strip is then inserted into the grooves under controlled pressure. The groove edges are mechanically closed over the fin base, creating a firm mechanical bond between the tube and fin without welding. The finning is tight — you can tell they used a proper cold-forming process because the fins don't move at all when you try to wiggle them. We've had issues before with other suppliers where the fins would come loose after a few thermal cycles, but these ones feel solid.
