EN 10216-2 P265GH Carbon Steel Boiler Tube Seamless Steel U Bend Tube Square Bending
The Only Real “U‑bend” Application in a Water Wall – Roof or Floor
In a few boiler types, a 180° return bend is used, but the tube is horizontal, not vertical:
Water‑cooled floor (fluidised bed): Tubes run horizontally, make a 180° U‑turn at the side wall, and return. These are genuine U‑bends.
Water‑cooled roof (top of furnace): Similar horizontal serpentine with U‑bends at the roof edge.
In these cases, the tube is still called a water wall tube (because it forms part of the furnace enclosure), and EN 10216‑2 P265GH is acceptable for pressures up to ~160 bar and temperatures up to 400°C.
Key difference: These U‑bends are cold‑bent with a mandrel, stress‑relieved, and have a large centre‑line radius (≥ 2.5× OD) to avoid thinning and ovality.

If you are procuring seamless P265GH U-bends (e.g., for an economizer in a waste heat boiler):
Hot Bending: Normalized after bending (re-qualifies to P265GH).
Cold Bending: Must be stress relieved at 580–620°C if outer fiber strain > 15% (per EN 12952).
Thinning: Outer wall thinning cannot exceed 12–15% of nominal thickness.
Ovality: Max 10% for pressure parts (tighter for membrane welding).
NDT: 100% liquid penetrant (PT) on the bend extrados (outer curve).
Superheater
Economizer, industrial boilers
Power plant steam lines (subcritical)
Heat exchangers in refineries and chemical plants
Pressure vessels for elevated temperature service
