GOST 550-2020 Grade 20 steel is an ideal base material for embedded G-type finned tubes. This steel offers reliable mechanical strength, excellent slitting performance, a wide applicable temperature range, ease of processing, and cost advantages, fully meeting the requirements for industrial air coolers in fields such as petrochemicals and thermal power generation.

Tubes comply with GOST 550-2020, featuring stable tensile strength (410–530 MPa) and yield strength (≥245 MPa). It withstands medium to high working pressure and mechanical vibration in air coolers, avoiding tube deformation or failure during long-term operation. Steel 20 has good ductility and machinability. It is easy to machine helical grooves on the tube surface for embedding fins, ensuring tight mechanical locking between fins and base tube with no gaps or loosening.

 

Steel 20 has wide temperature adaptability, tubes suitable for continuous operation from -40°C to 450°C. It maintains reliable mechanical performance under temperature fluctuations of industrial air cooler flue gases and process fluids.And low carbon content ensures excellent weldability. On-site assembly, pipe end welding, and maintenance can be conveniently performed without complex preheating or post-weld heat treatment.

 

Steel 20, like ASTM A106 as a common carbon steel grade, this material has lower material and processing costs compared to alloy steel. It can balance the performance and cost budget for large industrial air-cooled equipment. The adaptability to working media is fully suitable for air, steam, and common hydrocarbon fluids (non-corrosive media), and it perfectly matches the operating conditions of most industrial air-cooled equipment.

The finning is tight — you can tell they used a proper cold-forming process because the fins don't move at all when you try to wiggle them. We've had issues before with other suppliers where the fins would come loose after a few thermal cycles, but these ones feel solid.
