Product Description

ASME SA179 Embedded Fin Tube with Al1060 Fin

I. Product Overview

This is an embedded (G-type) fin tube designed for industrial heat exchangers. The base tube is manufactured from ASME SA179 seamless low-carbon steel, offering good thermal conductivity and pressure resistance for heat transfer service. High-purity 1060 aluminum fins (Al ≥ 99.6%) are precisely embedded into grooves on the tube's outer wall. This mechanical bonding ensures excellent contact, minimizing thermal resistance and preventing fin loosening.Compared to plain tubes, it greatly increases the heat exchange surface area, significantly boosting overall thermal efficiency. It is ideal for condensers, coolers, and waste heat recovery units operating in moderate temperature and corrosive environments.

Ⅲ. Comparison: Embedded Fin vs. L VS. Type Wound Fin for SA179 Tubes

Feature ASME SA179 (Seamless) ASME SA106 Gr.B (Seamless)
Primary Use Heat Exchangers & Condensers High-Temperature Pressure Piping
Form Factor Tube (Specified by OD & BWG) Pipe (Specified by NPS & Schedule)
Manufacturing Cold Drawn (Better surface finish) Hot Finished (Rougher surface)
Carbon Content Low Carbon (0.06% - 0.18%) Medium Carbon (Max 0.30%)
Tensile Strength Min 325 MPa (Lower) Min 415 MPa (Higher)
Yield Strength Min 180 MPa Min 240 MPa
Ductility Excellent (Better for grooving/finning) Moderate
Heat Transfer Slightly higher due to thinner walls Lower due to heavier wall thickness
Finning Suitability Ideal for Embedded (G) Fins Suitable, but harder to groove
Price Higher (Due to cold drawing process) Lower (Mass-produced hot finish)

Ⅳ. Key Applications

Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers (AFC): Widely used in oil refineries and petrochemical plants for cooling process fluids, especially where high thermal stability is required.

Power Generation: Applied in steam condensers, feed-water heaters, and Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) for efficient energy recovery.

High-Temperature Services: Ideal for operating environments up to 400°C - 450°C, as the "G-fin" design prevents fin loosening during thermal expansion.

Chemical Processing: Used in reactors and specialized heat transfer equipment where precise temperature control and seamless tube reliability are critical.

Boiler Systems: Integrated into industrial boilers as economizer tubes to preheat water using flue gas, maximizing fuel efficiency.

Oil & Gas Midstream: Utilized in gas compression stations and dehydration units for cooling natural gas.

The 13Cr pins add some cost, but for sour service in furnaces, it's worth it. Already seeing longer run times between turnarounds compared to before.

With high firebox temps and some sour gas in the mix, regular carbon tubes don't last. These have been solid.

the SS409 pins resist sulfur corrosion better than carbon steel pins we used earlier. In furnace service, that means longer runs between maintenance.
