ASTM B111 UNS C44300 Admiralty Brass Heat Exchanger Tube
ASTM B111 UNS C44300 (CuZn28Sn1) cold drawn seamless Admiralty brass tube is a copper-zinc alloy heat exchanger tube supplied in the O61 annealed temper, manufactured to ASTM B111 / ASME SB111 with an arsenic-inhibited chemistry of roughly 70% Cu, 28% Zn, 1% Sn and 0.02–0.06% As. It is the workhorse tube grade for shell-and-tube heat exchangers, surface condensers, marine coolers and freshwater generators where the cooling medium is fresh, brackish or low-chloride water.
The problem it solves is specific: ordinary brass tubes fail by dezincification — zinc is selectively leached out of the wall, leaving a porous copper plug that leaks without warning. The combined tin + arsenic addition in C44300 suppresses that mechanism, so tubes hold pressure for years in water chemistry that would destroy plain 65/35 brass. For buyers, the practical differentiators are: cold drawn wall thickness control across BWG 25 down to BWG 10, an O61 annealed structure that survives U-bending and tube-sheet rolling without cracking, full EN 10204 3.1 mill test certification, and third-party inspection on request.

C44300 Admiralty brass is specified almost exclusively where water is the cooling medium and the tube must remain leak-tight for a 10–30 year design life. It is the standard choice for surface condensers in power plants and marine propulsion systems, general industrial shell-and-tube exchangers, freshwater generators and evaporators, lube-oil and jacket-water coolers, and feedwater heaters in the lower temperature ranges. It is also used for instrumentation and condenser air-cooling sections where copper-nickel would be an unnecessary cost premium.
