ASTM A179 carbon steel wound L fin tubes with Al1060 aluminum fins are high-efficiency heat transfer components specially designed for air cooled heat exchangers. The base tube is manufactured in accordance with ASTM A179/A179M, which specifies cold-drawn low-carbon seamless steel tubes with good thermal conductivity and mechanical strength suitable for heat exchange service.

The fins are made of 1060 pure aluminum (Al ≥99.6%), featuring ultra-high thermal conductivity, excellent formability, and corrosion resistance in low-temperature environments.

L-shaped fin strip is tightly wound onto the outer surface of the base tube under controlled tension, forming a stable and low thermal resistance bonding structure. This type of finned tube significantly increases the external heat transfer area, strengthens flue gas turbulence, and effectively recovers waste heat from low-temperature boiler flue gas to heat feedwater. It helps reduce exhaust gas temperature, improve overall boiler efficiency, and save fuel consumption.

Advantages

High Heat Transfer Efficiency:

L-shaped fins maximize external surface area, significantly improving air-side heat transfer.

Cost-Effective Performance

Good Mechanical Bond:

Tension-wound design provides strong fin-tube contact, resisting vibration and thermal cycling in air-cooler service.

Compact & Lightweight Design:

Under the same heat transfer requirement, the L-type wound fin tube has a smaller volume and lighter weight than traditional bare tubes or other types of finned tubes.

Corrosion Protection:

Fins shield the carbon steel base tube from direct atmospheric exposure in air-cooled environments.

As an engineer in Siberia, I tested these fin tubes in extreme cold (-30°C). The ASTM A213 T11 steel performed well with no thermal cracks, and cooling efficiency met expectations (88%). That said, the Russian-language documentation had translation errors in technical terms, causing minor confusion during installation.
