C68700 is an arsenical aluminum brass - a specialized copper alloy engineered specifically for marine and aggressive water environments. Known commercially as "Aluminum Brass," this material represents a significant advancement over traditional brass alloys through strategic alloying that dramatically enhances corrosion resistance.

 

 

Key Characteristics & Advantages

  1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The aluminum oxide layer provides outstanding performance in:

    • Seawater (primary application)

    • Brackish water

    • High-velocity or turbulent fresh water

    • Resistance to stress corrosion cracking is good, especially in annealed condition.

  2. Good Heat Transfer: High thermal conductivity ensures efficient heat exchange, which is the primary function of condenser tubes.

  3. Moderate Strength & Good Fabricability: Can be bent, expanded, and flared, especially in the annealed temper.

  4. Biofouling Resistance: The aluminum oxide film provides some inherent resistance to marine organism attachment.

  5. Cost-Effective: More economical than copper-nickel alloys (e.g., 90/10, 70/30) or titanium, while offering a good balance of performance for many marine environments.
