ASTM B163 NO4400 (commonly known as Monel 400) is a nickel-copper alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive environments, including seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and alkaline solutions. It offers high strength and toughness across a broad temperature spectrum, from cryogenic to elevated temperatures.
The ASTM B163 NO4400 Seamless Nickel Alloy Embedded G Type Fin Tube with Aluminum Fin is a high-performance, bimetallic heat transfer component. It features a seamless Monel 400 base tube into which a strip of aluminum is mechanically embedded and cold-rolled to form an integral "G" type fin. This unique construction combines the superior corrosion resistance of the nickel alloy base tube with the excellent thermal conductivity and lightweight properties of aluminum fins.

1.Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: The Monel 400 base tube provides exceptional resistance to seawater, acids (including hydrofluoric), alkalies, and various chemical process streams.
2.Excellent Heat Transfer: Aluminum fins offer high thermal conductivity, creating an efficient extended surface for heat exchange.
3.Lightweight & Cost-Effective: Using aluminum for fins reduces overall weight and material cost compared to all-nickel or all-stainless finned construction.
4.Mechanically Secure Bond: The embedded "G" fin design creates a tight, permanent mechanical interlock with very low thermal contact resistance.
5.Good Low-Temperature Properties: Maintains ductility and toughness in cryogenic applications.
Embedded G-Fin vs. L/KL Wound Fin:
The embedded G-fin offers a more robust mech
anical bond and better protection against fin loosening under vibration, while wound L-fins are faster to manufacture for standard applications.
NO4400 (Monel) Base Tube vs. Stainless Steel (e.g., TP316L):
Monel 400 is significantly superior in resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids, and seawater, but comes at a higher material cost.
1.Marine & Offshore: Seawater cooling and desalination plant heat exchangers, shipboard condensers.
2.Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers and condensers handling sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and other highly corrosive chemicals.
3.Oil & Gas: Upstream and midstream heat exchange equipment exposed to sour environments and saline water.
4.Power Generation: Feedwater heaters and auxiliary coolers in coastal or marine-based plants.
5.Specialty Manufacturing: Heat recovery units in processes involving corrosive fumes or acidic condensates.
