ASTM A213 T11 Alloy Steel Seamless Boiler Tubes In Power Plants
ASME SA213/ASTM A213 This specification covers seamless ferritic and austenitic steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes, designated Grades T5, TP304, TP321, etc. ASTM A213 T11 is a chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) alloy steel widely used in high-temperature boiler applications in power plants. It has superior creep resistance, oxidation resistance, and weldability, which make it ideal for critical components like superheaters, reheaters, and heat exchangers in coal-fired, gas-fired, and biomass power plants.

A213 T11 is a cost-effective, high-performance alloy for power plant boilers operating at ≤565°C. But for higher temperatures (>600°C), T91 or T92 are preferred, while T22 is better for high-sulfur environments.
Key Applications in Power Plants
*Superheater & Reheater Tubes: Operates at 540–565°C (1000–1050°F) under high-pressure steam
T11 resists steam oxidation and thermal fatigue from cyclic operations.
T11 preferred over T5 (5Cr-0.5Mo) due to higher chromium content (1.25Cr-0.5Mo-0.3Si) for better oxidation resistance.
*Water Walls & Boiler Tubes: Used in furnace water walls where temperatures reach 400–500°C (750–930°F)
T11 handles coal ash corrosion better than low-alloy steels like T12.
*High-Temperature Heat Exchangers: Used in economizers and steam drums where thermal cycling occurs
T11 Seamless construction prevents leaks under high pressure (up to 3,000 psi).
*Combined Cycle Power Plants (HRSG): Used in HRSG tubing where exhaust gases heat water to produce steam
T11 better sulfidation resistance than T22 in flue gas environments.
