ASME SA213 T12 High-Frequency Welded Finned Tubes are designed for heat-transfer applications in Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRBs), where efficient heat recovery, elevated-temperature strength, and reliable long-term operation are required.
The base tube is manufactured from ASME SA213 T12, a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel grade intended for boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger service. The addition of chromium and molybdenum provides the tube with improved elevated-temperature performance compared with conventional carbon steel tube materials.
A high-frequency welded fin structure is continuously attached to the outer surface of the base tube. The fins increase the effective heat-transfer area on the flue-gas side, allowing the heat exchanger to recover more energy within a compact tube-bank configuration.
These finned tubes are particularly suitable for industrial waste heat recovery systems where hot exhaust gases are used to generate steam or preheat boiler feedwater.
ASME SA213 T12 High-Frequency Welded Finned Tubes are commonly used in:
ASME SA213 T12 is a low-alloy chromium-molybdenum steel. Chromium and molybdenum are the principal alloying elements responsible for its elevated-temperature service characteristics.
The following composition is based on ASTM A213 T12 requirements.
| Element | Chemical Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.05–0.15 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.30–0.61 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.025 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.025 |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤ 0.50 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 0.80–1.25 |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 0.44–0.65 |
| Nickel (Ni) | Not specified |
| Vanadium (V) | Not specified |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance |
The standard permits T12 to be ordered with sulfur up to 0.045% under a specified provision, so the exact requirement should be confirmed against the applicable purchase specification.
Typical minimum mechanical requirements for T12 include a tensile strength of 415 MPa, yield strength of 220 MPa, and minimum elongation of 30%. A maximum hardness of approximately 163 HBW is also commonly specified for T12.
| Mechanical Property | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | ≥ 415 MPa |
| Yield Strength | ≥ 220 MPa |
| Elongation | ≥ 30% |
