ASTM B111 UNS C12200 Seamless Red Copper Tube (DHP / TP2) is the industry standard for heat exchanger tubes requiring high thermal conductivity, excellent weldability, and superior resistance to corrosion in water environments. Its deoxidized chemistry ensures reliability during brazing and welding operations commonly performed during heat exchanger fabrication.

 
 

Key Properties of ASTM B111 UNS C12200 Seamless Red Copper Tube DHP Copper Tube

  • Weldability: Excellent. The deoxidized nature of C12200 allows it to be welded (gas, arc, resistance, brazing) without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement (which plagues oxygen-bearing coppers like C11000).

  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to non-oxidizing acids, fresh water, and seawater. It is widely used in plumbing and marine applications.

  • Conductivity:

    • Electrical Conductivity: Approximately 85% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard).

    • Thermal Conductivity: Very high (approx. 339–380 W/(m·K)), making it ideal for heat exchangers.

Fresh water, steam, HVAC C12200 (DHP) Good corrosion resistance, excellent thermal conductivity, easy to braze/weld, cost‑effective.
Seawater, brackish water C70600 (90/10 Cu‑Ni) Superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and erosion. C71500 for higher velocity (>3 m/s) or polluted seawater.
High‑velocity seawater with moderate chlorides C68700 (Al brass) Lower cost than Cu‑Ni; good for once‑through cooling where velocities are controlled (1.5–2.5 m/s).

  • Plumbing: Though B111 covers heat exchangers, the same material (C12200) is also the standard for water service lines and HVAC refrigerant lines (ACR tubing) under other standards like ASTM B280.
