How Can We Extend The Lifespan Of Finned Tubes?

2025-10-10

Finned tubes are manufactured using high-frequency welding technology with flake-like fins. Therefore, during installation and use, avoid collisions and compression, as these can easily cause deformation and may even affect the heat dissipation performance. Since the fins of finned tubes are spirally distributed, sediment and scale layers may form over long-term use. It is important to clean and maintain them regularly. Inspect the connections of finned tubes for any looseness and check for any detachment of the gaskets. Avoid exposing the external parts of finned tubes to rainwater and keep them as dry as possible. Do not place them too close to the ground to prevent corrosion from irrigation in greenhouses.

Proper maintenance of finned tubes can significantly extend their service life. Like any other item, the long-term use of finned tubes relies on careful maintenance.

Maintenance Methods:
  1. Regularly inspect each finned tube for deposits, coking, scale layers, and other fouling, and clean them promptly. At the same time, check the adhesion between each finned tube and the rubber gasket to ensure it is tight, and verify the integrity of the rubber gasket itself to prevent leaks caused by adhesive detachment or damage.
  2. The tightening nuts and upper and lower guide rods of the plate heat exchanger should be frequently lubricated with grease.
  3. The adjustment of each instrument should be managed by a designated person, and strict adherence to operating procedures is required for operation and maintenance.
  4. When replacing rubber gaskets or repairing adhesive detachment, remove the finned tube and place it on a table. Remove the old gasket, or use fine sandpaper to remove any adhesive residue from the finned tube groove at the detached area. Then, use a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene to clean any oil traces from the groove. Similarly, roughen the back of the new rubber gasket with fine sandpaper and clean it with the same solvent. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to both the groove and the back of the rubber gasket. Allow it to dry slightly until it is no longer sticky to the touch but still tacky, then insert the rubber gasket into the groove, press it flat around the edges, and apply a layer of talcum powder. Reinstall the finned tube on the equipment frame and gently clamp it. According to the adhesive instructions, wait for a specified period before putting it back into service.
  5. When re-tightening the finned tube, pay attention to the position of the previous tightening mark and avoid over-tightening the rubber gasket, which can reduce its service life.
  6. When replacing the rubber gasket of a finned tube, replace the entire section to ensure uniform gaps between the plates and maintain effective heat transfer.
