ASTM B167 is a specification that covers nickel-chromium-based Alloy 600 in the form of seamless tubes. Alloy 600 is a solid-solution strengthened, nickel-chromium alloy with excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, particularly at high temperatures. This alloy is often used in extreme environments, such as those encountered in heat exchangers, chemical processing, and aerospace applications.

Alloy 600 is a high-performance material known for its high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and excellent mechanical properties. It maintains its strength and stability even in environments where temperature fluctuations and high stresses are common.

The tube form of this alloy is typically used in heat exchangers, furnace components, gas turbines, and other high-temperature applications where oxidation and carburization resistance are important.

 

 

Chemical Composition:

  • Nickel (Ni): 72.0% - 78.0%
  • Chromium (Cr): 14.0% - 17.0%
  • Iron (Fe): Balance (approximately 6.0% maximum)
  • Manganese (Mn): 1.0% maximum
  • Silicon (Si): 0.5% maximum
  • Copper (Cu): 0.5% maximum
  • Carbon (C): 0.15% maximum
  • Sulfur (S): 0.015% maximum
  • Phosphorus (P): 0.015% maximum
  • Titanium (Ti): 0.30% maximum (optional, depending on grade)

 

 

Mechanical Properties:

 

  • Tensile Strength: Range: 690 - 1030 MPa (100 - 150 ksi)
  • Yield Strength: Minimum: 275 MPa (40 ksi) at room temperature
  • Elongation:Minimum: 30% in 2 inches (50.8 mm)
  • Hardness: Brinell Hardness: 170 HB (typical value)

The finning is tight — you can tell they used a proper cold-forming process because the fins don't move at all when you try to wiggle them. We've had issues before with other suppliers where the fins would come loose after a few thermal cycles, but these ones feel solid.
